Grayson Lake, midsummer, part 2 of 2

I love having these additional photos to share from our afternoon on Grayson Lake. However, first I'd like to explain briefly about the lake. It's located near Grayson along I64 in northeastern Kentucky. It was built by the Army Corps of Engineers; it didn't exist when I first came to Kentucky as a teenager.  The cliffs in these photos would be "taller" if I could show their underwater sections as well. It's the reason the kids can swim right up to the side of the cliffs. We don't get to go out often enough on a boat or canoe or kayak.
The shape of the lake on a map looks to me like an extremely elongated serpent. Also in the general area is Carter Caves State Park, which features underground caves. We don't have much coal in this part of Kentucky, though there is some. Mainly there's lots of beauty.

Well, that's enough for explanations. Here are more views from last week's boat outing:

Even a place so large and relatively remote suffers from thoughtless trash.

I do love the cliffs, including the details.

Thank you, Rebecca, for being picturesque AND for making your photos!

I hope this post today provides a bit of lift after more gun violence this past week, and more lying and bullying from our president.  We had no way to get news all that afternoon, even if we had wanted to. I don't mean to be a spoil sport, but, as citizens, we should never pretend there aren't needless and abnormal behaviors being thrown at us every day. We have to persist. Thank you for caring.

fun family photos, not in any order -- last people post of 4, for now

In advance, please forgive me. I may make it appear today that I have multiple grandchildren.  Not so! These are kids, and other family members, at different times, not always directly related and not in chronological order. Some photos have already appeared on the blog as part of some other story. I never use names, out of privacy concerns, so just take each photo for what it is, by itself. For me, it's simply a gift to have all these images to share, each one with its own story. Remember to click on one to get the line-up in a larger size along the bottom of the screen.

There are many more extended family photos, here and there, within these 8 years of weekly blog posts -- so a special thank you to all for their patience over so many years!

mothers day, a prom and graduations

Sunday evening has come and is going. It has been a full day -- phone calls from my two kids, my sister, and from a friend in Lexington, two friends from nearby coming by to help me and visit, since I am still healing from the broken foot. (It has now been 3 weeks since I have been upstairs in my own house. It's getting harder to remember to keep weight off the foot since it is less swollen now and there's no on-going pain. But it will be awhile before it heals enough to allow me a more regular life.)
Even without Mothers Day, I have felt I wanted to share some family photos, mostly of kids. Having a close call of any kind, including falling down some stairs, can make one appreciate some of the daily things we might be unintentionally taking for granted. So I rummaged around in my photos to find a few images that spoke to my current pensive condition.

a photo from a few years ago -- and this weekend his college graduation!!

I meant to add this photo to the Notre-Dame post of a few weeks ago.

I know I won't be able to resist adding a few photos during the week to come. Advice of the day: be careful walking down the stairs.....
